Jordin’s weight loss was not achieved overnight. She took some measures, had patience and dedication to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Former American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, has always been a chubby girl; comfortable with her plus-size body figure. But, back in 2010, a bout of illness encouraged Jordin to lose a whopping 50 pounds, making her health a priority.

Jordin inspired millions of people for more than one reason. Her god-gifted voice, her dazzling smile, and of course, her healthier workouts motivated people who were struggling with their issues.

Illness Led Jordin to Lose Weight

Talking with Today, Jordin Sparks revealed what made her take a serious step in her life.

‘I got really sick in the fall of 2010 right after Broadway, and I was just like, I am not going to take my health for granted anymore. This changes right here, right now.’

She continued:

‘I had gotten really sick. And I was about to celebrate my birthday and I was like, ‘I should be in the prime of my life right now. I shouldn’t be feeling like this. I really need to make my health a priority.’ And that’s what I did.’

Before that, she never thought of eating healthier food, nor of toning her body.

Jordin’s weight loss was not achieved overnight. She took some measures, had patience and dedication to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Jordin Sparks’ weight loss has three different phases.

Started by Walking and Jogging

Jordin lost 15 pounds of her weight in the first four months by regular jogging and walking.

“I started walking with my cousin every day,” says Jordin.

The main turning point was Christmas when Jordin was able to resist baked foods. But the thing is, she did not make any diet plan to that date.

Build Muscle and Tone up

Jordin Sparks then started toning up her body and dropped 15 more pounds in six months.

“My friend introduced me to a trainer,” Jordin says. “If I couldn’t do a sit-up or pull-up, we’d just move on to the next move.”

Avoiding carbs after 5 in the evening, and eating high-fiber foods was the best thing she did during that phase.

Healthy Foods and Workouts

In eight more months, Jordin Sparks lost 20 pounds of her body weight. She achieved the goal by trying out the various workout and diet plans, which we have discussed below.

Jordin Sparks’ Diet Plan

Jordin makes sure to consume a gallon of water every day. Her main motto of losing weight and being fit is by staying hydrated. All other artificial sugar foods, red meats, fatty products, and caffeine are a no-no.

In an Interview with Today Magazine, she said:

‘Ask yourself, ‘Am I really hungry, or am I having this because it looks good?’ It doesn’t have to be about sacrificing all the things you love. Just be conscious of portion size and why you’re eating.’

Jordin Sparks’ meal consists of:

Breakfast: Low-fat Yogurt, Protein Shake

First Lunch: Brown Rice, Grilled Chicken(high protein)

Second Lunch: 2 pcs Hard-boiled eggs, 4 pcs Beef meatballs, Turkey

Post Lunch Snacks: Celery sticks with peanut butter

Dinner: Caesar salad, grilled salmon

Dessert: Mango, Berries, Frozen Yogurt

Jordin’s meal plan looks like a lot, but it is only limited to 1800 calories.

Jordin Sparks’ Workouts

Jordin not only started eating healthy foods and diets but also did full-body exercises. She hired a personal trainer, Eric Small, and he trains her from lunges to boxing to sprints.

Jordin is also interested in Zumba. She says,

‘I discovered a form of Zumba called Sensazao. [Two to three times a week] I burn 900 calories an hour doing what I love–dance.’

She also loves going on a hike on a regular basis, taking a walk down the hill with her pet dog, and swimming.

People’s Comment on Jordin Sparks Weight Loss

While most of her fans and followers are happy for Jordin’s weight loss, there have been people on the net who feel they have lost one of the most beautiful plus-size role models. The Cafemom blog also headlined ‘Jordin Sparks’ weight loss a big disappointment.’

Kelly Allison, weight expert, USA, also made a comment on Jordin’s weight loss. She says it is far better for Jordin to be a healthier role model than being a plus-size role model.

How is Jordin Sparks Today?

Jordin loves having a healthier lifestyle, that’s why she is fit and has her weight maintained post-pregnancy.

The singer/songwriter married her husband, Dana Isaiah on July 17, 2017, and together they have a son, named Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr. The baby boy came to this world on May 2, 2018, and it’s already been 3 years. And the good news is, she is in her prime and looks fit as she ever did.
